Happy of the Day

  • Oct. 11th, 2009 at 10:20 PM
Dude is tired
I got to sleep in this morning and just relax all day.  It was marvelous!  I ate junk food.  I watched Buffy on DVD.  I wore my jammies all day long.  I played online games.  I made pretty rainbow beads.  I petted the cats.

I didn't have to do anything terribly productive or even leave the house.  Nice.

*sigh*

Now, I just have to tackle Monday...

Craft Show Lessons

terraflora designs
Terra Flora Designs had her inaugural craft show today.  We did fairly well.  We didn't sell scads of jewelry as we had hoped (though hadn't really expected) but we did make enough money to cover the cost of the booth with a bit of profit and we also learned a number of valuable lessons...

Lessons behind the cut. )

Our next show is this upcoming weekend, October 17 in Bartlett, IL.  It runs from 9 to 4.  It's supposed to be a really big show.  Feel free to stop by and say "hi" if you're in the area.  Send me a message or give me a call for directions, etc.

One of the necklaces that I sold today... )</div>

ETA:  I can't seem to add on the photo without ending up with visible code.  If anyone cares to teach how to properly use my damn blog, it would be much appreciated.  ;)

bead knotty hemp

I have finally mastered the "pretzel knot!"  I was having trouble keeping my hemp strands parallel though the knot and it was just turning out all kinds of funky-bad.  However, I have finally figured it out!  Whee!  *Happy Cat Dance*

What's a pretzel knot? )

Say what?

I heard an interesting quote today in which human culture was referred to an "ongoing catastrophe."  (I have unfortunately forgotten the quote-writer's name but the quote is on the dust jacket for Richard Heinberg's Peak Everything.)

I understand where the writer is coming from - the destructive capabilities of modern technology, the harmful effects that human civilization has had on the global environment and localized ecosystems, and so on.  I realize that, while every organism utilizes resources within its immediate environment, the massive human population and the exhaustive methods through which we gather our resources sets the human animal apart from the rest of the Kingdom.  His message that we, as a species, have caused irreparable damage to the planet and to other species is not lost on me.

However, culture is the means by which humans adapt to changing climates, landscapes, and any other environmental change.  Technology, from flint knives and Clovis projectile points to nanobots and vaccines, is how we have managed to survive and thrive in harsh climates like the Namib Desert or the Arctic Circle.  We are soft, fleshy, and amazingly weak creatures.  We require care-giving until a ridiculously old age compared to other animals.  You've all heard of the turtle eggs that are abandoned immediately after the mother lays them.  It's human society and human innovation that has allowed us to make it to where we are.  It is human culture that has created an environment which allows the writer life, let alone the capability of making such a statement.

The more I travel, the more I read, the more I learn through Anthropology classes and through life in general; the more amazed I am by human potential.  We are an incredibly clever and persistent species.  I totally agree with the writer that these traits lead to unforeseen environmental problems.  But, I also believe that it is these same traits that will lead to a solution.

At any rate, the guy made me think...

1) Comment to this and I will give you 3 people.
2) Post this meme with your answers.
3) Provide pictures and the names of 3 people.
4) Label which you would respectively marry, shag, and throw off a cliff

[info]moiracoon  provided the following for my consideration: Margaret Cho, Camryn Mannheim, and Angelina Jolie.

And on to the shagging... )

Your result for The Brutally Honest Personality Test...

Pollyanna- INFP

27% Extraversion, 80% Intuition, 47% Thinking, 7% Judging

So, you want to make the world a better place? Too bad it's never gonna happen.

Of all the types, you have to be one of the hardest to find fault in. You have a selfless and caring nature. You're a good listener and someone who wants to avoid conflict. You genuinely desire to do good.

Of course, these all add up to an incredibly overpowered conscience which makes you feel guilty and responsible when anything goes wrong. Of course, it MUST be your fault EVERYTIME.

Though you're constantly on a mission to find the truth, you have no use for hard facts and logic, which is a source of great confusion for those of us with brains. Despite this, in a losing argument, you're not above spouting off inaccurate fact after fact in an effort to protect your precious values.

You're most probably a perfectionist, which in this case, is a bad thing. Any group work is destined to fail because of your incredibly high standards.

Disregard what I said before. You're just easy to find fault in as everyone else!

Luckily, you're generally very hard on yourself, meaning I don't need to waste my precious time insulting you. Instead, just find all your own faults and insult yourself.

Me meme

Meme stolen from [info]samiitiger .

Comment to this post and I will give you 5 subjects/things I associate you with. Then post this in your LJ and elaborate on the subjects given.

And if you want, five things that you associate with me. Feel free to say the same things, but I'll elaborate each subject only once!

From [info]samiitiger :

Cats:
I live with six cats who are kind enough to let me share their home.  Ash is my baby.  We've been through a lot together.  There are days when I feel like I connect better with him than with most humans.  Imp and Misty are litter-mates.  Imp is the Princess of the bunch, though he is clumsy as fuck.  Misty is very mellow and really enjoys his kibble.  Lugh has a quiet meow, a loud purr, and is a decided cuddleslut.  Aradia is Lori's kitty through and through.  She only likes me when she's in heat.  (Not sure what that's about...)  Seven is the newest addition to the family.  She is 3 months old and enjoys eating paper products.  I try not to gush over my kitties but I love them to pieces.  I also identify as a house cat as my fursona.

Bi the Weigh:
This is how Samii and I met - the now-defunct "Bi the Weigh" Meetup Group for Bisexual / Lesbian BBW's of Chicagoland.  Definitely had some fun experiences and met some amazing people including my best friends (and, in a way, even my sweetie) through the group.  Also met some Cougars and drama-queens.  All-in-all, I miss the group and the flirting and the excuse to go out and play.  (Love you, girls!  <3)

Studio 21:
Hee.  That was a fun Meetup.  [info]samiitiger , [info]dreamzinspired , and non-LJ-using Anj met up at Denny's for dinner.  Afterward, we realized we were right next to a porn shop.  Being the twisted individuals that we are, we decided we had to check it out.  Great place!  I really recommend it!  Lots of toys, videos, props, leather, novelties, etc.  And they carry plus-size lingerie, which Michele and I were happy to model.  The woman running the shop didn't seem terribly amused when we tried out the love-swing though...

Adventurous:
I'm willing to try anything twice.  More than willing, really.  'Nuff said.

Free Love:
I'm bi / pansexual.  I'm poly.  I'm flirtatious.  I'm loving.  I enjoy being naked.  I like to play.  I feel that whatever happens amongst consenting adults is up to them.  I think this is what she means by "free love."  I guess I'm somewhat of a hippie kind-of-gal too.  :)~
